Training modules on the evaluation of conflict prevention

Channel Research and INCORE (International Conflict Research) are launching a series of training modules on the evaluation of conflict prevention>. The first module: Evaluation of Peacebuilding Activities, will be given as part of the 2005 INCORE International Summer School. The School takes place at the Magee Campus of the University of Ulster, running from 13 to 17 June 2005. Designed for those with experience in either conflict resolution or general evaluation methodology, this course offers an introduction to conflict resolution/conflict prevention evaluation. The course will cover issues such as: The purpose of evaluation – to establish accountability or enhance knowledge management and learning? The means of evaluation – what are the choices for evaluation criteria, selection of indicators and methods of verification? The integration of evaluation methods in the project cycle – how to prepare funding proposals; how to run a monitoring and evaluation system. The specific opportunities and challenges in conflict related evaluation – what are the current edges of good practice? Through interactive and participatory methodologies, this course promotes sharing of knowledge, gained during field or research work. It aims to draw out best practices in peace-building and evaluation, by bringing together researchers, practitioners, evaluators, and peace-building experts. Please note that the application deadline is 4th April 2005. More information on the 2005 School, including how to apply, can be found at: http://www.incore.ulster.ac.uk/courses/ss
