• The Melbourne Evaluation Group: This is a self-organising group of individuals, who are both staff of NGOs as well as NGO consultants. All members have an interest in the monitoring and evaluation of development assistance endeavours. The group originally came together to make a presentation at the Australasian Evaluation Society's conference in Melbourne in 1998, and has continued to meet since then. Whilst the group discusses a number of aspects of development evaluation, its key interest is the measurement or assessment of impact and development outcomes. A dialogue has begun with the Australian government aid body AusAID, the outcome of which may well be an NGO/AusAID seminar around the issues of measuring development impact. • (Via Xceval) Hello all: My name is Radha Ganesan and I work as a Senior Program Associate for the Office of Professional Development at Syracuse University on their evaluation projects. I am also working towards a Ph.D in Education and Evaluation. It is my pleasure to inform you all regarding the creation of an online discussion group of Indian evaluators - IndiaEvalGroup@yahoogroups.com. I took the liberty of pulling out all 'seemingly Indian' names from the AEA conference book and contacted them and found out that several of them were interested in forming such a group. The idea is to see if we can bring all the evaluators from India or evaluators working on Indian evaluation projects together under one roof and learn from each other. • M&E Common Interest Groups. In association with Yahoo groups, MandE NEWS wants to encourage the development of a number of common interest groups each of which is focused on a particular monitoring and evaluation topic of concern. • The Sphere Project : Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Disaster Response. "The Sphere Project was launched in 1997 by a group of humanitarian NGOs and the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement. Sphere is based on two core beliefs: first, that all possible steps should be taken to alleviate human suffering arising out of calamity and conflict, and second, that those affected by disaster have a right to life with dignity and therefore a right to assistance. • "The MEASURE project is a USAID funded arrangement between University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), Tulane University, John Snow, Inc (JSI) and Macro (a research firm that implements national Demographic and Health Surveys in developing countries).
